Sarah Pickett Art Entitled Repeats

The Addison Conference Centre was recently reopened to house Addison's Economic Development and Special Events Departments, as well as a meeting place for City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission Meetings. As part of the revival of the building, the award-winning Addison Art program curated by Addison resident Fran Powell has also been reinstated. The first exhibition since COVID showcases the work of Dallas-based artist Sarah Pickett who explores the interplay between movement, landscapes, and memory. Employing printmaking, textiles, and embroidery, Pickett combines techniques such as relief printing, photolithography, and screenprinting.

Titled "Zugunruhe," the new exhibition reflects Pickett's fascination with travel and place, drawing inspiration from her road trips and experiences. The artwork presents abstracted, linear images based on satellite imagery of landmarks, carefully relief-printed to create distinct edges and landscapes. Embroidery elements add nostalgic touches, inviting viewers to unravel the imagery and contemplate the gradual fading of memories. The inclusion of quilt structures symbolizes the comfort found in nature and underscores the interconnectedness of seemingly unrelated places.

Pickett brings a unique perspective shaped by her background in biology and a deep appreciation for nature. While teaching printmaking courses at University of North Texas and Dallas College, Pickett continues to balance their commitment to education with the creation of captivating art.

The Conference Centre is open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm, but also during City Council and P& Z Meetings. Meeting agendas are posted on the Town's website.
