No, the Addison Police Department is an At-Will agency.
We do periodic Saturday tests, but in order to better accommodate our applicant's work/school schedules, our testing is usually by appointment only. Please contact 972.450.7100 or email email@example.com for more information and to schedule a test.
Since we are not Civil Service, we do not offer Military Service Points.
Depending on your schedule and the schedule of the background investigator, it could take between one to three months.
Currently, the Addison Police Department does not use an obstacle course or Cooper test for its applicants. Instead, we have a physical exam based on Texas DPS standard rowing test. More information can be found here.
Currently, we use the Denton Public Safety Training Center's Academy (Denton) and the North Central Texas Council of Government's Regional Police Academy (Arlington).
No, licensed Texas peace officers go to field training immediately after hire.
Field training lasts approximately 18 weeks. Experienced officers may be accelerated through the training process.
Patrol Officers work twelve-hour shifts.
Most specialty assignments require at least two years in patrol or two years of Law Enforcement experience.
The Addison Police Department provides your uniforms, weapon, and almost all of the needed equipment.
Police Officers are not allowed to have any visible tattoos or piercings unless authorized by the Chief of Police. Tattoos must be covered while on duty.
