The CARES Act also provides $10 billion in funds to be distributed as economic relief to eligible U.S. airports affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. At its June 9 meeting, the City Council formally accepted a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the amount of $157,000 for Addison Airport.

The amount each airport receives is based on a formula created by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that categorizes each airport in the national airport system. In this system, Addison Airport is categorized as a National General Aviation airport. Unlike typical Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, this does not require a local match from the grant recipient. The FAA will provide 100% of the funds that will be distributed to Addison Airport through the TxDOT. Because these funds are in the form of a supplemental discretionary grant, they may be used to cover the airport’s operating expenses.
