Charter Election Proposition L

Shall Section 8.03 “Nominations” of the Charter of the Town of Addison, Texas, be amended to increase to 25, the minimum number of signatures for a petition to place a candidate in nomination for a City Council office in accordance with state law?

Impact

In addition to being able to place their own name in nomination, the Charter also currently allows for people to be nominated through a petition signed by between 10 and 15 registered voters. Proposition 11 proposes to remove the option for self-nomination, leaving just the petition. State law regulates petitions and requires that such petitions must be signed by a minimum of 25 registered voters. Therefore, the current Charter requirement of between 10 and 15 does not conform with state law. This proposition would amend the minimum number of required signatures on a petition to be in accordance with state law.
