Charter Election Proposition I

Shall the Charter of the Town of Addison, Texas, be amended to remove outdated forms of petitions and simply require that all petitions conform with the requirements of state law?

Impact

Currently, the Charter includes requirements for petitions related to candidacy for office or ballot measures for initiatives, referendums and recalls. These petitions are already regulated by state law in the Texas Election Code. The current Charter requirements do not conform with and are superseded by the Texas Election Code requirements. This creates the potential for conflict and confusion. This proposition would replace specific language for petitions with a requirement that petitions comply with state law. This would bring the Charter into harmony with the Texas Election Code and remove any confusion.
