May 2024 Municipal Election

Addison Municipal Elections Overview

The Addison City Council election is held on the first Saturday in May of each year. The next City Council election will be Saturday, May 4, 2024.  The Town contracts with Dallas County Elections Department.

The Council shall be composed of a Mayor and six (6) council members.  In each even-numbered year three (3) council members shall be elected.  In each odd-numbered year, a mayor and three (3) council members shall be elected.  Members of the Council shall be elected from the Town at large, for a term of two (2) years. The candidates for election to the places of council member, equal in number to the number of vacancies to be filled, who receive the highest number of valid votes cast by qualified electors voting at the election, shall be declared elected.  In case of a tie vote as to any two (2) or more candidates, the Council shall order a special election within not less than thirty (30) days nor more than forty (40) days after the regular election to resolve the tie vote as between such candidates.  No person shall serve as council member or mayor more than three (3) consecutive terms of office. The phrase "terms of office" shall not include any unexpired portion of any two-year term.


Candidate Packets

Packets to file for the May 2024 City Council election are available in the City Secretary's office at Town Hall, 5300 Belt Line Road, Monday through Friday from 8am - 5pm and online here. Ordinance Canceling the May 4, 2024 General Election

At its March 5 meeting, the City Council approved an Ordinance canceling the May 4, 2024 General Election and declaring the three unopposed candidates for City Council Member positions as elected. Congratulations to:

  • Howard Freed
  • Darren Gardner

The new council members will be sworn in at a special meeting on Friday, May 10 and their first official City Council Meeting will be on Tuesday, May 14.

Important Dates

Wednesday, January 17, 2024:  The first day to file an application for a place on the ballot.  (First day to file does not move because of New Year’s Day holiday.  An “Annual ABBM” or FPCA for a January or February 2024 election may be filed earlier, but not earlier than the 60th day before the date of the January or February Election.)

Friday, February 16, 2024:  The last day for a candidate to file an application for a place on the ballot for May 4, 2024 General Election.  

Tuesday, February 20, 2024 @ 10:30 AM:  Drawing to determine the order in which the names of the candidates are to be printed on the ballot.

Thursday, April 4, 2024:  Last Day to Register to Vote in time to vote at the May 4, 2024 Election.

Monday, April 22, 2024:  First Day of Early Voting by Personal Appearance.

Tuesday, April 30, 2024:  Last Day of Early Voting by Personal Appearance.

Saturday, May 4, 2024: Election Day, polls are open 7AM to 7PM.

Wednesday, May 15, 2024 @ 7:30 PM (Note: This date is tentative.):  Date and time of the Official Canvass.  Date to be determined upon receiving final totals from Dallas County Elections Department.

Early Voting Hours

Early voting for the May 4 Election begins Monday, April 22 and runs through Tuesday, April 30, 2024. During early voting, Addison residents can vote at the Addison Conference Centre at 15650 Addison Road or at any Dallas County Early Voting Vote Center. You can find a complete list of locations and hours at www.DallasCountyVotes.org.

Early Voting Hours:

  • Monday, April 22 - Saturday, April 27:  8am - 5pm
  • Sunday, April 28:  12pm - 6pm
  • Monday, April 29 - Tuesday, April 30:  7am - 7pm

HB 305 – Internet Posting Requirements for Political Subdivisions

On September 1, 2019, House Bill 305 became effective.  This bill requires that a political subdivision with the authority to impose a tax, that maintained a publicly accessible Internet website at any time on or after January 1, 2019, be required to post on its website the following information:

  1. The political subdivision’s contact information, including a mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address;
  2. Each elected officer of the political subdivision;
  3. The date and location of the next election for officers of the political subdivision;
  4. The requirements and deadline for filing for candidacy of each elected office of the political subdivision which shall be continuously posted or at least one year before the election day for the office;
