On Wednesday, July 26 artist Eliseo crowned the newest Addison sculpture with a large metal sphere, putting the finishing touch on his latest public art piece. The Addison Arbor Foundation (AAF) commissioned Eliseo to create the monumental limestone sculpture located on Beltway Drive next to the Addison Hampton Inn. The Hampton Inn granted an easement to Addison for the sculpture location.

Eliseo is well known for his inspirational stone sculptures and has several other installations in the DFW area, including the large stone dog located at Spruill Park in Addison. He carved the sculpture onsite and allowed the public to try their hand at sculpting as he worked. The Beltway sculpture, which has yet to be named, consists of two large limestone blocks measuring approximately 11’ high x 4’ wide and weighing about 17,000 pounds each. The side by side pieces portray different scenes from nature on six sides and are capped with a large metal sphere that rests atop the two stone blocks.

Eliseo said, “The Town of Addison holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to create an inspirational work of art that emanates a sense of curiosity, discovery and contemplation. My vision was to create two powerful limestone pillars sculpted with abstract forms and organic natural scenes capped off by a luminous stainless steel sphere. My hope is that it enriches the area and brings pleasure to all who encounter it.”

The Town is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony later this year. This is the thirteenth public art installation sponsored by AAF.
