Pollinator Patch

This spring, you will see a new Parks Department initiative begin to take bloom! Throughout the Town, the Parks Department will begin to install pollinator patches.

What is a pollinator patch? 

A pollinator patch is an urban ecosystem comprised of predominately native Texas perennial plants that will provide food and cover for butterflies, birds, and bees. Research indicates that the number of pollinators in the U.S. is in decline. By limiting the use of pesticides and planting pollinator-friendly plants in our urban areas, we can be a part of the solution.

While you are out enjoying Addison's great parks and trails, look for the pollinator patch signs that will begin to be installed in late April. These signs will signify the use of pollinator-friendly plants and organic maintenance principles.

If you would like more information about this initiative, please visit the Parks Department website to locate a map of the pollinator patches and get information about the plants that were used.
