In the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget, the City Council allocated funds to install artificial turf in Spruill Dog Park. However, a survey revealed that users preferred natural turf, despite the need for regular closures for maintenance and rain. Since there was no support for artificial turf, staff was directed to use a portion of the funds to improve storm drainage in the park, connect the pet drinking fountains to the sanitary sewer system, plant additional shade trees, and replace the drinking fountains.

Bids have been received, and a contract is being authorized, with work expected to start in August. A timeline will be provided to park users once it is established, and a temporary dog park will be built adjacent to the existing dog park so that pet owners will have access to an off-leash area while the work is taking place. The park will be resodded after construction is complete.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve Spruill Dog Park.
