Coyote Precaution Tips

The Addison Animal Control team recommends the following coyote precaution tips:

• Don’t directly/indirectly feed the coyotes – securely store garbage and all pet food.
• Keep pets inside, confined securely, or supervised by an adult. Walk all pets on a leash.
• Do not feed feral cats and keep bird seed off the ground - these encourage species that coyotes prey upon.
• Minimize clusters of plant undergrowth.
• Use loud noises to haze coyotes.

Hazing techniques include:

• Yelling
• Clapping
• Stomping
• Waving your arms
• Throwing rocks near the animal
• Noisemakers
• Spraying hoses
