Coyote class

Sam Kieschnick, an Urban Biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, spoke to a room full of residents, including Council Members Ivan Hughes, Guillermo Quintanilla, Paul Walden, and Marlin Willesen, at the Addison TreeHouse on Thursday, February 6 about managing urban coyotes. Mr. Kieschnick emphasized to the group that hazing is the most effective deterrent for coyotes and shared these hazing techniques:

  • Use loud noises - clapping, hands, shouting, stomping feet.
  • "No Pain, no Gain" - throw objects at coyotes.

Animal Control has found that opening and closing an umbrella quickly is effective as well.

Mr. Kieschnick also emphasized how important it is not to feed wildlife, intentionally or unintentionally. Make sure all your trash is secure, but also keep animals inside.
Thank you to everyone who came out for this informative session.
