During its March 23 Work Session, Council discussed the Sam's Club Special Area Study that was initiated in 2014. The study area runs from the former Sam’s Club site south along the Midway Corridor, including the Midway Square Shopping Center and Office in the Park. The goal of a special area study is to provide a recommendation to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council regarding the future use of those sites after an in-depth analysis.

Over the past five years, the northern segment of the study area has experienced significant change through the implementation of the Addison Grove development and the fire that destroyed the Super 8 Motel. Council directed staff to expand the boundaries of the project south to Hornet Road, and to evaluate and make any needed modifications to the existing study to support the adoption of a comprehensive development policy for this area. An Advisory Committee will be appointed by City Council to guide this process.  If you are interested in being considered to serve on the Advisory Committee to assist with this effort, please fill out this application by 5pm on Friday, April 23. Council will consider making appointments at the second meeting in April.
