Town of Addison is scheduling a water main shutdown that will affect 30 homes as a part of the Oaks North Drainage Project. The water in your area has been scheduled for repairs on April 16, 2020 beginning at 10am. The shutdown is anticipated to take four hours but could last as long as eight hours.

Below are some measures you can take to be better prepared during the scheduled water outage and precautions to do during and after the scheduled shutdown.

Before the Shutdown:

  • Fill a couple of buckets with water for cooking, washing, and flushing the toilet. Some people may also fill up their bathtubs to use that water to put in their toilet bowls. A toilet will flush when about a gallon of water is dumped in the bowl.
  • Have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

During the Shutdown:

  • Try not to operate the water faucets. This will prevent air from entering your plumbing system.

After the Shutdown:

  • Water is sometimes discolored after water main repairs. This orange/red color is normal and comes from sedimentation but needs to be flushed out. Do not use this water for consumption.
  • Turn on cold water from a faucet closest to your water meter until the water clears up. You may experience a stronger than normal chlorine smell, this is normal and is due to crews cleaning and flushing the newly installed line.
  • If the water does not clear within 5-10 minutes, please wait 30 minutes and try again.
  • Do not use your hot water or a faucet that is connected to your home’s filter system. This may draw some debris through the water heater or filter system.
  • A knocking sound is common during flushing. This is caused by air in the water line which needs to be flushed out.
  • If you note reduced water flow in a faucet, check the faucet aerator (screens) for debris and clean accordingly. If this does not restore flow, contact the Town of Addison Water Utilities Department at 972-450-2826.
