The Town of Addison is scheduling a water main shutdown that will affect 31 homes as a part of the Oaks North Drainage Project. The water in your area has been scheduled for repairs on March 30, 2020 beginning at 10am. The shutdown is anticipated to take 4 hours, but could last as long as 8 hours.

Below are some measures you can take to be better prepared during the scheduled water outage and precautions to do during and after the scheduled shutdown.

Before the Shutdown:
  • Fill a couple of buckets with water for cooking, washing, and flushing the toilet. Some people may also fill up their bathtubs to use that water to put in their toilet bowls. A toilet will flush when about a gallon of water is dumped in the bowl.
  • Have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

During the Shutdown:
  • Try not to operate the water faucets. This will prevent air from entering your plumbing system.

After the Shutdown:
  • Water is sometimes discolored after water main repairs. This orange/red color is normal and comes from sedimentation but needs to be flushed out. Do not use this water for consumption.
  • Turn on cold water from a faucet closest to your water meter until the water clears up. You may experience a stronger than normal chlorine smell, this is normal and is due to crews cleaning and flushing the newly installed line.
  • If the water does not clear within 5-10 minutes, please wait 30 minutes and try again.
  • Do not use your hot water or a faucet that is connected to your home’s filter system. This may draw some debris through the water heater or filter system.
  •  A knocking sound is common during flushing. This is caused by air in the water line which needs to be flushed out.
  • If you note reduced water flow in a faucet, check the faucet aerator (screens) for debris and clean accordingly. If this does not restore flow, contact the Town of Addison Utilities Department at 972-450-2871 and ask for line maintenance for further guidance.
